Club Rules

Sailing is an inherently dangerous activity. Anyone who sails with RCSSC or who is a member of RCSSC agrees to abide by the following rules.
  1. Rutland Sailing Club safety rules apply, in particular
    a. Buoyancy aids or life jackets will be worn at all times when on the water or when on the pontoons

  2. RCSSC boats can only be sailed with at least two people on board, at least one of whom must be a RCSSC approved skipper.

  3. RCSSC approved skippers will hold at least the RYA level 2 dinghy qualification, RYA Dayskipper practical certificate, or have been approved by the committee on the basis of demonstrated skills and experience, including launch and recovery.

  4. All persons going on the water are advised to wear clothing appropriate to the conditions of the day. All RCSSC approved skippers have the right to refuse to take any inappropriately equipped person on the water.

  5. RCSSC approved skippers are responsible for checking the condition of any club boat they use and its safety equipment before taking it on the water. Any concerns or faults that cannot be immediately repaired should be reported to the Commodore and Boat Husband. Skippers should not take out a boat they feel is unsafe.

  6. Members wishing to use the club boats at weekends will liaise with the Sailing Secretary and fellow members to ensure that enough people, including at least one RCSSC approved skipper per boat, are available to sail the boats.

  7. Members will respect the fact that some members may wish to race with the RSC Squib fleet on a Saturday afternoon or with club fleets on a Sunday or a Thursday evening. However, no member should be disadvantaged by this choice and the objects of the club should be borne in mind by all members.

  8. Members, along with their family and friends, can sail on weekdays provided that they have reported their intentions to RSC and have paid any guest or temporary membership fees that may be required

  9. Club boats may be put into the water using a member’s own car (at their own risk) or using the RSC tractor. However, only members who have passed RSC’s tractor driving course and test may use the RSC tractor.

  10. In the case of any damage being incurred to any of the club boats or trailers, the skipper will report the damage to the Commodore and the Boat Husband as soon as possible, and will put in place measures to ensure that the damage is repaired quickly and cost effectively. Skippers and crew are encouraged to repair any damage themselves, provided they have the necessary skills. Where appropriate, costs will be met from RCSSC insurance.
